Safe at Home Program

Our Safe at Home program was created in response to the growing need for home safety modifications and minor home repair needs among low-income homeowners.

Small housing repairs often become critical when not addressed for long periods of time, which can lead to significant risks to health and safety.

The majority of all home injuries can be prevented by simple home modifications.

We are committed to home repairs and modifications because:

  • Many residents in our community live in substandard housing.
  • Falls are a leading cause of death for people 65 and older.

  • The average cost of a hip fracture is $33,000.
  • Our average recipient’s income is $780 a month.

The impact of our services:

  • Revitalized homes and neighborhoods.
  • Improved safety and independence for elderly and disabled individuals.

Our year-round "Safe at Home" program, initially funded by E*TRADE Financial, provides minor home repairs and modifications for the elderly and disabled. Repairs are performed by small volunteer teams or by a handyman, as available.

Each project is limited to no more than $250 in expenditures.

This program addresses critical repairs that cannot wait
for the Event Day in April.

Repairs include the installation of:

  • Grab bars
  • Handicapped Raised Toilets
  • Smoke detectors
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Security lighting
  • Yard clean-up
  • Small Paint Projects
